I've no idea why some people have it whilst most don't but at least once you know what's causing it you can avoid it. Also, loading from Quickload is independent of the above problem. it's purely a function of whether the file browser is expanded or minimized (all minus signs hit until nothing is showing except the drives).
Also all the above happens just the same with nothing loaded in Kontakt in an empty Logic as it does when libraries are loaded. Just to avoid confusion, if anyone's wondering, this has nothing to do with loading of libraries which all load fast and with no problems. When I then close the Kontakt plugin GUI I can re-open it again instantly. the only solution is to go back to the File browser view and minimise the library path back to hard drive/lowest level. Even if I navigate to the Library tab view it still causes the spinning beach ball. when I close Kontakt the plugin won't re-open without a massive pause of 30 secs or so accompanied by a spinning beach ball. If I select the file browser view in Kontakt (as opposed to the Library tab view) and navigate to where I keep my libraries (the non Library tab view ones) and I then leave that expanded view open. It's all to do with the file browser in Kontakt. I'm on the latest version of El Capitan, Logic 10.3 and the latest version of Kontakt btw. I've sent a video to Native Instruments (who unfortunately have not been of any help) of me experiencing the problem, fixing it, then making it happen again. it took me weeks to finally work out what it was.
Anyway, I'm writing this here in case anyone else has this same problem. It's one of those where you change something and everything looks fixed. Not exactly solved although I know now what's causing it so I can work around it. Has anyone else out there experienced this.? Thanks. I've tried rolling back to earlier versions of Kontakt (it seems 5.6.6 is slightly faster to open the GUI than 5.6.8) and have also tried completely uninstalling Native Access. I can't pinpoint exactly when it started but it was roughly a month ago (my first support request to NI was 3 weeks ago). The only solution here at the moment in order to not waste so much time is to remember to not close Kontakt on a track once it's open. huge CPU spike and spinning beach ball until it opens again. If I close the Kontakt GUI at any time and try to re-open it it's exactly the same. Once the GUI is open the actual loading of instruments is excellent. This is in a completely empty Logic song with nothing loaded in Kontakt. Checking on the Activity Monitor I see that this is accompanied by a CPU spike of between 50% and 100%. When I click on the plugin (in the Logic instrument rack) in order to simply open the GUI I'm getting a spinning beach ball that lasts anywhere between 20 secs and 2 mins. but just a few weeks ago I've run into a bug that is threatening my work flow. For years Kontakt has been totally rock solid. I use Kontakt as part of my daily work and have over 80 libraries installed visible in the library side panel and many others accessible via quickload.

I'm a professional composer/producer and use Logic 10.3.1 with El Capitan (10.11.6) on a 12 core Mac Pro with 64GB RAM.
So I'm turning to the good people of Gearslutz in the hope that there's someone out there who might have experienced this and can help. At my wits end here and despite repeated support requests to Native Instruments they only send me general advice that unfortunately has no effect.
